DESCRIPTION:Step out around midnight in early August and you’ll likely see a sky of “falling stars.” This summer delight is part of the Perseids\, our best known meteor shower. But what causes it\, and why does it occur at the same time each year? Even more intriguing\, what prompted its source body to shift from an expected collision course with Earth? Come learn about the friendly forces in our solar system and how they still give us brilliant fireworks every August\, albeit from a safer distance. \nThis Focus Night is intended to prepare you for a Perseids “peak” experience. Unlike planets that can hang around for months\, a meteor shower is only visible over a short period of time. You will learn about different kinds of showers\, why most are best viewed after midnight\, and how to understand what you’re seeing. You’ll also discover factors that influence meteor counts and how to optimize your viewing as the densest Perseid activity approaches over the following week. \nPlan to be in the classroom by 8:15 PM to ensure you have a seat. Program begins promptly at 8:30. Sales are limited to 40 guests so we can provide a more personal experience. Allow generous time to arrive and park. \nPlease visit https://rfo.simpletix.com for important information and to buy tickets. You MUST have a ticket to attend this event; tickets will not be sold at the door. Tickets are $60 per adult\, $50 for seniors (62+) and students\, and $45 for members. Cost includes the Sugarloaf Ridge State Park parking fee. Begin the evening heading out to the observatory’s three main telescopes to explore planets\, star clusters\, and other summer night highlights. Telescope viewing will conclude at 11:00 PM\, after which we will turn our attention fully to the night sky\, reclining and watching meteors streak overhead as Perseid activity continues to build. \nParticipants are welcome to remain on the observatory grounds late into the night for meteor watching.  \nPlease note: Guests may stay on the grounds until the event concludes at 3:00 AM\, overnight camping is not permitted unless you have a separate reservation with Sugarloaf Ridge State Park. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unforgettable evening of stargazing\, exploration\, and cozy treats at Cosmos and Cocoa! This event brings together the wonders of the cosmos with a warm cup of cocoa. \nKick off the night with a short\, guided hike along a portion our captivating Planet Walk\, where you'll encounter scale models of many of our solar system’s planets\, each with its own unique story. As the stars begin to sparkle\, we’ll gather for an in-depth stargazing and storytelling session led by experienced astronomers who’ll point out constellations\, planets\, and celestial objects.  \nThe event’s highlight is telescope viewing through our powerful observatory telescopes\, providing a chance to get up-close views of the astronomical objects visible in the sky that month which could include the Moon’s craters\, Saturn’s rings\, Jupiter’s moons\, and distant galaxies. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and guide you through the night sky’s best features. \nAnd of course\, stay warm with complimentary cups of rich cocoa as you marvel at the universe above. Whether you're an avid stargazer or a curious beginner\, Cosmos and Cocoa promises an evening filled with wonder and warmth. \nNo prior experience necessary\, and all ages are welcome. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight with a red light setting (no white light allowed). Red light flashlights will also be available for purchase. \n Register at rfo.simpletix.com.

DESCRIPTION:Bring Your Own Binoculars and Chair! This is a guided tour into the wonders of the night sky that are visible through common binoculars. Guests will station their chairs in the parking lot outside the observatory and knowledgeable docents with laser pointers will guide guests to the hidden secrets of the night sky. Expect to see double stars\, open star clusters\, globular clusters\, maybe even a planet or two! \nPlease visit https://rfo.simpletix.com for important information and to buy tickets. You MUST have a ticket to attend this event; tickets will not be sold at the door. Please note that tickets are non-refundable and cannot be used for future events.  \nCost is $35 per adult ($30 for seniors or under 18) and includes the State Park parking fee. \n

DESCRIPTION:¡Ven a conocer más acerca de nuestro universo! Los docentes del Observatorio Robert Ferguson (ubicado dentro de Sugarloaf Ridge State Park) nos guiarán en una charla astronómica bilingüe y en el uso de telescopios para que tu y tu familia puedan observar el cosmos. El evento comenzará a las <7:00> pm en el aula del Observatorio con una presentación. \nEntradas \nLa admisión es $10 para adultos\, $5 para jóvenes entre 12 y 18 años (deben ser acompañados por un padre de familia o guardián legal)\, y gratis para menores de 12 años. Obtén tus boletos en rfo.simpletix.com Si posees una tarjeta de EBT\, el dueño y tres familiares pueden registrarse por gratis a través del programa Museums for All. Regístrate por adelantado ya que el espacio es limitado y se llenará pronto. Recomendamos vestirse en capas\, traer agua\, una linterna pequeña de mano (sólamente para aluzar el camino; no puede ser usada cerca del Observatorio a menos que tenga un filtro rojo)  y si la tienes\, una guía a las estrellas. Nos reuniremos en el estacionamiento del Granero Blanco. Condiciones lluviosas cancelan el evento pero continuará en condiciones nubladas . \nFacilidad de acceso: el Observatorio Robert Ferguson se ubica dentro de Sugarloaf Ridge State Park. El área de estacionarse cuenta con un espacio designado para camionetas que necesitan acceso y aunque no oficialmente\, hay mucho estacionamiento que puede ser accesible en esa misma área y en el estacionamiento del granero blanco. Hay una rampa que oficialmente cumple con los requerimientos de la Ley para Estadounidenses con Discapacidades (ADA) para ingresar al observatorio. El área de asentamiento en el aula principal del observatorio está compuesto de sillas que fácilmente pueden moverse. Hay baños disponibles dentro del edificio\, incluyendo uno accesible.
