Join California Naturalist John Lynch on a guided nature walk that will take us from the sublime beauty of shooting stars to the 25 foot dramatic plunge of Sonoma Creek.

The walk begins at the Visitor’s Center with a route that will take us up the Pony Gate Trail, along a grassy slope, and into a mixed evergreen forest. Once we cross Adobe Canyon Rd, our trail becomes the aptly named Canyon Trail which follows the riparian corridor of Sonoma Creek to the waterfall. The return will take us back up the hill and across Adobe Canyon Rd. for a return on the now familiar Pony Gate trail.  We will take our time with frequent stops to enjoy and identify the wildflowers, talk a little about the traditional uses of plants we encounter, and catch our breath on this approximately 2-mile loop with 450-feet elevation gain.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for students, seniors, Sugarloaf members and volunteers. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for two miles of leisurely walking and chatting over moderate and possibly muddy terrain. Be prepared to follow County Health guidelines such as physical distancing or mask wearing. We invite you to bring a reusable drink container for your little ones to enjoy hot cocoa after the walk. Heavy rains cancel; parking fees apply.
